Wanted to share some photos from my trip to my first castle, which was located in Carcassonne France, which is a little over an hour outside of Toulouse. I found some parking on the public street and then just walked to the entrance.
I wont try provide my interpretation of the history, recommend just checking out the wiki page to understand its 2,500 year history.

Being my first trip to an ancient location outside the US, its was hard to believe this was real at first.

At times, this looked like it was out of a fairy tale.

I forgot to take photos of the nameplates, but I believe this was the Carcassonne Cathedral.

Overall, I spent an hour, hour and a half max touring the castle. I was by myself, so if I was with others I would have spent longer here. There was a small market with some food available as well, so depending your leisure and how much you are into history you could spend several hours here.
What are your travel tips for Carcassonne?
