Riverside, Iowa, may be a small town with a big claim to fame and for Star Trek fans, it’s a must-visit destination. Iit is recognized as the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk, the iconic character from Star Trek, played by William Shatner.
Riverside hosts Trek Fest, a Star Trek-themed festival every summer, featuring cosplay, parades, trivia contests, and special guests from the franchise.
I didn’t realize until afterwards that there is some other unique things as well.
- Star Trek Street Signs & Themed Businesses – The town has fun Star Trek touches, including signs like “Enterprise Avenue” and businesses leaning into the theme.
- The Voyage Home Museum – A small but fun museum filled with Star Trek memorabilia and artifacts dedicated to both the franchise and Riverside’s role in its history.
