Sunrise Serenity: Reflections of the Ten Peaks at Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is one of the most breathtaking destinations in the Banff National Park. The backdrop is made up of 10 different peaks and snow covered with a lush green forests. Like other lakes in the region, Moraine Lake also has vibrant green hue to it as well.

The obvious activity at Moraine Lake is just sit back and take photos all day long, however there is canoe rentals and hiking as well. Most of the photos below are taken from the iconic Rockpile Trail, which provides the best panoramic views of this location.

Getting to Moraine Lake requires some pre-planning. You can only get to the lake by shuttle bus. We got up at 2 am the day we went to the lake, left our hotel at around 2:45 am and had around an hour drive to Lake Louise from Canmore. Our bus departed from Lake Louise at at 4am and is around 25 to 30 minute drive. The sun was just starting to come up when we got to lake, so we headed over to the famous Rockpile to setup to start taking photos. Be prepared for this location to be busy in the morning.

We stayed in the same spot for quiet some time to continue to take photos as we watched the sun rise and start to shine on the peaks.

You can tell the sun is starting to peak over the mountain and shine on the peaks.

You could rent canoes at Moraine Lake as well, but like I mentioned in my other post, best value is renting at Emerald Lake.

We decided to checkout what the rest of the Lake had to offer. We went for a hike on the Shoreline Trail, its about 2 miles long, we only went about a mile then decided to turn around.

Watching the sunrise at Moraine Lake is truly a magical experience.
